During this holiday season, the stores are crowded with people buying gifts. We all can jump to a great conclusion. These people are givers. They care for others. The big question remains: What is the motive? The motive behind one’s action will determine the type of people we are. Today we will look at the thought process of people who are Takers. These folks tend to be self-absorbed, self-seeking, self-centered and selfish. Behind every action, they always ask: what’s in it for me? Their attitude affects every area of their lives: career, family or ministry. Their reasonings go like this: “I am going to choose a career so I can make a lot of money. I am going to do anything to get ahead even to the destruction of my family or others. This action will prove that I am worthy or good….I can’t give you anything. I don’t even have enough for myself “. It is all about them. They are never content. They expect people to do for them or give to them. However, they never have time to do for others unless it makes them look good. Now, we may not share all the examples above. But, it is important to examine ourselves to see the motive behind our actions. Luke 12:13-21 gives us a glimpse into the life of a selfish person. Verse 18 says, “Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain”. It’s all about accumulating more for himself and not sharing with others. Where are you on the scale? Are you always expecting to receive and not give? Think about it. To be continued.
I take this opportunity to wish you all a Christmas filled of joy and peace. Bring joy to someone who is hurting this season.
